Time Flies When You’re Having…Redfish!

September is here! Actually, it’s halfway over! Where has time gone?

We are heading into a busy, busy fall season, and we are extremely grateful to have dodged both Hurricane Harvey & Hurricane Irma. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by these storms, as we have a lot of great friends in Texas and Florida, and we know firsthand how hard it is to rebuild. Luckily, we managed to get away with a just a lot of rain and a little minor flooding, but no trouble on the fishing front!

Redfish are still coming in early, early morning! Many times, the first fish of the day is caught before sunrise and once the bite is on, boats are quickly catching their limits. We’ve had great 18-22″ fish with a number of smaller ones and a few bulls mixed in. Our guides have mainly been catching with shrimp on the bottom, but there is still great opportunity for sight casting when clear water is found. Yesterday, we even had some success catching reds on the fly! The bite has been slowing as the sun gets higher in the sky….’the early bird gets the worm” rings true.

Right now, we are also catching sheepshead and black drum regularly mixed into our trophy redfish. The recent cold front brought in the first of the speckled trout, and we expect we will have great luck with specks later in the season!
